Marrakesh Menara Airport

Marrakesh Menara Airport, or RAK to the IATA and GMMX to the ICAO, is an international airport serving Marrakech of the Marrakech-Safi region of Morocco. It is a focus city for Royal Air Maroc and Ryanair. There were 6.3 million passengers served in 2019. There is one runway: 10/28, which is 10,171 by 148 feet (asphalt).

Airport history

RAK originated during WWII, as it was used by the US Army Air Forces Air Transport Command as a hub for cargo, transiting aircraft, and personnel. Whereas the date of the construction of the original terminal could not be identified, it was renovated and expanded from 2006 to 2008, increasing airport capacity to 4.5 million annual passengers. Moreover, in 2016 a new terminal opened, increasing the airport capacity to 9 million yearly passengers.

The airport is located 4.6 miles southwest of the Marrakech city center.

  • There are numerous lounges at RAK. These include a Pearl Lounge at both the Departure and Arrivals area and a Royal Air Maroc Oasis Lounge at the Departures area. 
  • The FBOs at RAK are Swissport Executive Aviation Maroc and Jetex.
