Republic Airport
Republic Airport is a general aviation public-use airport owned by the New York State Department of Transportation. The airport is currently managed by AvPORTS, a US-based and owned operator and manager of airports.
Airport history
Republic Airport was developed by Sherman Fairchild as the Fairchild Flying Field in 1927. In 1965, Fairchild Hiller Corporation acquired Republic Airport and sold it to Farmingdale Corporation, and in December 1966, the airport became a general aviation airport. In 1969, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority purchased the airport for $25 Million. Then in 1983, ownership was transferred to the New York State Department of Transportation as a way to promote economic development in the surrounding areas. Currently, KFRG includes three fixed-based operators and there is also a two-story terminal building that serves passengers on charter flights to Atlantic City and other short distances.
