Airport history
While GRB officially opened in December 1948, aviation in Green Bay began in 1928 with Northwest flights at Blesch Field (at the intersection of Ashland and Lombardi Avenues). This service was discontinued in 1933. Commercial traffic returned in 1948, with Austin Straubel Field replacing Blesch Field as the primary airport for the county. Flights began with North Central on a nine-passenger Lockheed 10A, switching to Douglas DC-3s in 1951. In 1965 a new terminal was completed, making the airport more convenient for passengers. Northwest returned to the airport in 1986, while Delta Connection began service in 1998. The airport changed its name to Green Bay–Austin Straubel International Airport on August 17th, 2016.
