The West 30th Street Heliport

The West 30th Street Heliport, also known by the code JRA, is a heliport in New York City owned by the Hudson River Park Trust and operated by Abigail Trenk and Brian Tolbert.

Airport history

On September 26, 1956, the heliport opened with two landing pads. In December of that same year, scheduled passenger flights were begun by New York Airways, the first airline flight to Manhattan. As a result of a court agreement between the operators of the heliport and the Friends of Hudson River Park (who took action to enforce the Hudson River Park Act, which had banned tourism flights from that location), tourism flights were scheduled to move to the Downtown Manhattan Heliport on March 31, 2010, while the entire heliport was scheduled to move by December 31, 2012. However, the state legislature voided the agreement in 2013, and the heliport remains open to this day.

Airport location

The heliport is located on the west side of Manhattan in New York City.
