Laconia Municipal Airport
Laconia Municipal Airport, or LCI, is a general aviation airport in Belknap County, New Hampshire. While it no longer supports airline travel, LCI does see frequent private jet travel due to its proximity to the wealthy Lake Winnipesaukee region, the Meadowbrook (Bank of New Hampshire) Pavilion, and New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The airport covers 488 acres, and there are two parallel runways: 8/26, which is 5,890 feet (asphalt).
Airport history
LCI originated in 1935 and was located just a few miles from Belknap Mill. In 1941, with WWII raging, the airport was relocated to its present location as it had outgrown the original field. It was intended as an emergency landing field and training center. In 1941, the Laconia Airport Authority was established to operate and manage the airport. Construction began on two runways, 8/26 and 17/35, with both runways 3,500 by 150 feet. Runway 8/26 was extended by 1,000 feet in 1963 and again in 1965, whereas Runway 17/35 was closed in 1976 due to the maintenance deterioration of the approach. Its first scheduled airline flights were by Northeast in June 1950. In 1969 they were replaced by Winnipesaukee Airlines, which continued the route until they were bought out by Precision Airlines, which continued providing service until 1983. In 1987 Valley Airlines began air carrier service until 1989, when Skymaster took over the route. The route was discontinued in 1993, and since then, there has been no scheduled airline service at LCI.
Airport location
The airport is located three miles northeast of the central business district of Laconia.
