Truckee Tahoe Airport
Truckee Tahoe Airport, or TKF to the IATA and TRK to the FAA, is a public airport in Nevada County and Placer County, California. It is categorized by the FAA as a general aviation airport and is owned by the Truckee Tahoe Airport District (comprised of both counties). In 2004 the airport had 35,000 aircraft operations, 97% general aviation, 3% air taxi, and less than 1% military. 91 aircraft were then based at the airport, 80.2% single-engine, 13.2% multi-engine, 2.2% jet, 3.3% glider, and 1.1% ultralight. The airport covers 989 acres, and there are two runways: 11/29, which is 7,000 by 100 feet (asphalt), and 2/20, which is 4,650 by 75 feet (asphalt).
Airport history
TRK originated in the mid-1950s as a small Chamber of Commerce representing Truckee's business owners who wanted a modern airport that would attract tourists to the area. As such, the Truckee Tahoe Airport District was formed in 1958. The first board, comprised of local business people, spent their money to obtain state and federal funding to build a runway and a terminal building and purchase the property surrounding the airport. In 2012, a new terminal building was built, including amenities such as a pilot lounge, a pilot kitchen, a flight planning room, public meeting rooms, and more. Moreover, in 2017 an air traffic control tower opened.
Airport location
The airport is located two miles southeast of Truckee and seven miles north of Lake Tahoe.
