Zadar Airport
Zadar Airport, or ZAD to the IATA and LDZD to the ICAO, is an international airport serving the city of Zadar, Croatia. It is a hub for Ryanair. In 2022, there 1,102,381 passengers were served. There are two runways: 13/31, which is 8,202 feet (concrete); and 04/22, which is 6,562 feet (asphalt).
Airport history
ZAD originated in 1936. At the time, Zadar was a part of the Italian Province of Zara, and Ala Littoria serviced the first commercial flights. On April 19th, 1969, the current airport opened. Traffic steadily increased until 1990, when the Yugoslav War devastated the airport. Recovery began after the war, with the most significant event being the opening of the Ryanair base in April 2013, which caused passenger traffic to increase tenfold. Furthermore, in December 2019, Lauda announced that it would begin to serve the airport via three Airbus A-320 aircraft. This was supposed to occur by 2020, but COVID-19 delayed the opening to July 2021, with two aircraft instead of three. Nonetheless, 37 new destinations will be served by the base.
Airport location
The airport is located in Zemunik Donji, five miles from the center of Zadar.
