Ibiza Airport
LEIB is an international airport in Spain that serves The Balearic Islands of Ibiza and Formentera. The airport features both year-round domestic services and several dozen seasonal routes to many European cities.
Airport history
Ibiza Airport was initially built to function as a temporary military airport during the Spanish Civil War, and stayed open after the war's end for use as an emergency airport. In 1949, the airfield was used to for domestic and international tourist flights, but it was shut down in 1951. Seven years later, in 1958, as a result of the rapidly growing tourist market in the Balearic Islands, work commenced toward the airport's reopening. Then on April 1, 1958, the airport opened, with the first destinations including Barcelona, Valencia, and Madrid. In the decades that followed, LEIB expanded to handle the growing tourism market with enhancements done to its runway, taxiway, apron, and terminal. In 2011, the airport had over 5.6 million passengers and around 61,000 aircraft movements.

LEIB is located just 4.3 miles southwest of Ibiza Town.

● The airport also functions as a seasonal base for Vueling, a Spanish airline based at El Prat de Llobregat in Greater Barcelona.
● In 2020, the 2.1 million passengers went through the airport (after more than 8.2 million in pre COVID-19 conditions in 2019), making it the thirteenth busiest airport in Spain.
