Chambéry Airport
Chambéry Airport, also known as Chambéry Aix-les-Bains Airport or CMF to the IATA and LFLB to the ICAO, is a small international airport serving the Savoy region of France. Vinci Airport operates it. In 2016 there were 212,018 passengers served with 30,282 aircraft movements. There are two runways: 18/36, which is 6,627 feet (asphalt), and 18/36, which is 2,297 feet (grass).
Airport history
CMF originated in 1929, as the original commitment to constructing an airport was undertaken. Construction began in 1934 as a joint civil-military airport on the lands south of Le Bourget du Lac. However, these efforts were disturbed by WWII, and construction of the terminal only began in 1954, with commercial activities starting in 1960. In 1968 Air Alpes began serving CMP with routes to Lyon Bron, and the following year they began to service a route to Paris. In 1985 the military component of the airport closed, and in 1990 (in anticipation of the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics), renovations began, with the terminal building expanded and modernized and the runway lengthened.
Furthermore, a 300-space car park and 20-space coach park were developed, along with aircraft parking bays. In 2001, the aircraft serviced its first Boeing 757 via Dutch airline Transavia, the largest aircraft to ever land at the airport. A security control system for both luggage and passengers was installed the following year. In 2004, Vinci Airport was granted a seven-year mandate (which has since been extended to 2029) for the airport's operations, management, and development. As such, work was undertaken to develop lounges, an operations center, and computerized check-in points. In 2006 a dedicated commercial aviation center opened, and in 2009 a bus station to transfer passengers to winter sports resorts was created. In 2015 work began to renovate the terminal and the business aviation terminal's facade. The airport reopened in 2016 as the Chambéry Savoie Mont Blanc Airport to attract more international tourism.
