Avignon Provence Airport
Avignon Provence Airport, or AVN to the IATA and LFMV to the ICAO, is an airport in the city of Avignon, in the Vaucluse department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in France. It has three runways: 17/35, which is 6,168 by 148 feet (asphalt); 17R/35L, which is 2,297 by 164 feet (grass); and 17L/35R, which is 820 by 66 feet (grass).
Airport history
AVN originated in 1937 after the French government initiated construction. As WWII was on the horizon, aviation was saddled, with the first regularly scheduled flight only taking place in 1948 (to Paris). The runway was extended in 1997, thereby allowing a higher variation of aircraft to utilize the airport. In 2004 a VIP terminal suitable for business travelers was completed, followed by a particular terminal suitable for business travelers in 2009.
