Mykonos-Manto Mavrogenous Airport
Mykonos-Manto Mavrogenous Airport, or JMK to the IATA and LGMK to the ICAO, is the international airport serving the Greek island of Mykonos. It features destinations throughout Europe due to the island's popularity as a leisure destination. In 2020, there were 7,556 aircraft movements. There is one runway: 16/34, which is 6,244 feet (asphalt).
Airport history
JMK began operations in 1971. Historically, the airport had limited flight connections and operating hours during the off-season. In contrast, the opposite was true during the busy summer season, with the necessity to restrict general aviation activity (allowing only a technical stop of two hours). In 2015 JMK (along with 13 other regional Greek airports) was privatized by agreement between the Fraport AG/Copelouzos Group and the state privatization fund, with the joint venture operating the airports for 40 years, starting April 11th, 2017. As part of a submitted Master Plan, operations will include general clean-up, decreased wait times to check-in and a reduction of flight delays, an upgrade of the sanitary facilities, enhanced services, and free WiFi. Furthermore, the new joint venture set about remodeling the terminal and increasing its total size by 50% (which would increase the check-in counters, the departure gates, and the security-check lanes), reorganizing the apron, and building a new fire station.
Airport location
The airport is located 2.5 miles from the town of Mykonos.
