Paros National Airport
Paros National Airport, or PAS to the IATA and LGPA to the ICAO, is the airport serving the island of Paros in the Cyclades Islands region of Greece. In 2018 there were 204,924 passengers served and 3,712 aircraft movements. There is one runway: 17/35, which is 4,593 feet (asphalt).
Airport history
PAS opened on July 25th, 2016, replacing the old airports serving the island since 1982. Although the old airport sufficed for its time, the island's growing popularity meant that larger aircraft would need to access the airport. Unfortunately, the runway at the old airport was too short and couldn't be extended sufficiently. As such, when the new airport opened, all operations were moved. The new airport opened with a wider 4,593-foot runway. Initial service to PAS included Olympic Air (via the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400), Sky Express (via the ATR 42/72), Astra Airlines (via the BAe 146 and the ATR 42/72), and Travel Service (via the Boeing 737-700). Furthermore, on June 8th, 2018, Smartwings (a Czech airline) began regular service to PAS via a medium-sized jet.
Airport location
The airport is located in the southwestern part of the island of Paros, 6.2 miles from the port of Parikia.
Airport facts
- The airport remains incomplete. Works include a new terminal, the extension of the runway, a new air traffic control tower, and other facilities.
- As the airport currently has no fuel services, the Smartwings flights stop at Santorini on the return route for refueling.
- FBOs at PAS include Signature Flight Support and Universal Aviation.
