Thessaloniki Airport
Thessaloniki Airport, officially Thessaloniki Airport "Makedonia" or SKG to the IATA and LGTS to the ICAO, is an international airport serving Thessaloniki, the second-largest city in Greece. The main airport of Northern Greece also serves the towns of central Macedonia. It is the second-busiest airport in Greece regarding aircraft movements, and the third-busiest regarding passengers served. It is a hub for Aegean Airlines, Olympic Airlines, and Ryanair. In 2022, there were close to 6 million passengers served, with roughly 49,000 aircraft movements. There are two runways: 10/28, 11,286 feet (asphalt), and 16/34, 7,907 feet (asphalt).
Airport history
SKG originated as an airfield during WWI, built as part of the Allied war effort along the Macedonian front. In 1938 the Greek government began construction of the airport for civilian aviation. Work halted as WWII broke out, and the airport finally opened in 1948. Greece joining NATO brought about investment into the airport, and in 1965 a new terminal building opened. Moreover, in 1978 the air traffic control tower was damaged during an earthquake, forcing authorities to tear the tower down and build a new one. In 1993 the airport added the name Makedonia. During the 1990s, modernization works were undertaken, including the construction of Runway 10/28 (which was later expanded into the sea and finally entered service on September 11th, 2020, after almost a quarter century of development, at an estimated cost of $202 million). In December 2015, airport operations were privatized as part of the Fraport AG/Copelouzos Group joint venture and the state privatization fund, with the agreement set for a term of 40 years commencing on April 11th, 2017. This included a promise of investment, and as such, construction of a new terminal began on September 19th, 2018, and was completed in February 2021. Further works included installing a baggage handling system, constructing three additional baggage reclaim belts, connecting a wastewater plant to the municipal service, constructing a new airport fire station, and more.
Airport location
The airport is located in Thermi, eight miles southeast of Thessaloniki.

Going above and beyond is more than just a motto to us. We select our jets by the same standards, and the Citation Excel epitomizes that. With more cabin and storage space than other aircraft in its class, it is rightfully considered a breakthrough in the world of midsize jets.
