Antalya Airport

Antalya Airport, or AYT to the IATA and LTAI to the ICAO, is an international airport serving the resort city of Antalya, Turkey. AYTi s operated by Fraport TAV Antalya A.S., a joint venture between Fraport AG and TAV Airports. The third-busiest airport in Turkey, it served 18.74 million passengers in 2016. There are three runways: 18L/36R, which is 11,154 feet (concrete); 18C/36C, which is 11,154 feet (concrete); and 18R/36L, which is 9,809 feet (asphalt).

Airport history

AYT originated in 1960 to serve the millions of European tourists visiting the city and its beaches every summer. Work on the International Terminal 1 began in 1996 and opened on April 1st, 1998. Furthermore, International Terminal 2 opened in 2005, whereas in 2010, the Domestic Terminal opened. As a result, passenger numbers have steadily increased over the years. For example, in 2003, the airport served 10 million passengers, a 78% increase from 1998. By 2009, that number had risen to over 15 million passengers.

The airport is located 8.1 miles northeast of the city center of Antalya.

  • A new airport is expected to open to the west of Antalya, near Kaş. 
  • Airports Council International voted AYT the best airport in Europe in 2011 in the 10 to 25 million passenger category.
