Petrozavodsk Airport
Petrozavodsk Airport, or PES to the IATA and ULPB to the ICAO, is a joint civil-military airport in Russia's northwestern Republic of Karelia. It serves primarily small airlines. There is one runway: 01/19, which is 8,202 feet (concrete).
Airport history
PES originated as a Soviet military interceptor base, with Sukhoi Su-15 aircraft based there during the 1960s and 1970. Moreover, during the 1970s, the base was home to the 991st Fighter Aviation Regiment (991 IAP), flying the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25, also known as the "Foxbat" aircraft. Following the breakup of the Soviet Union, the 159th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment transferred to the base from Poland in 1992-1993 after leaving the 4th Air Army.

The airport is located 7.5 miles northwest of Petrozavodsk in Besovets, Shuya Rural Settlement.
