Phnom Penh

The capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, was a hub for both the Khmer civilization and the French colonialists. Cambodia has been rebuilding after the reign of the Khmer Rouge, including infrastructure, government, and culture. In Phnom Penh, you can see some of the beautiful ancient history of the city, the remnants of the Khmer devastation, and the city's efforts to build a better future. Some of the more serious sites you can tour regarding the city's recent past are the Killing Fields and S21 Prison. The Royal Palace and National Museum hearken back to historical pre-Khmer times, while the city also features multiple markets, the Night Market being the most notable for curious foodies.
