Venice

Venice's world-famous city is built on over 100 islands in a lagoon on the Adriatic Sea. Rather than roads, the city has canals and bridges, with gondolas for transportation. St. Mark's Square stands as the city's central point, as it holds the majestic St. Mark's Basilica and St. Mark's Campanile, as well as the Doge's Palace. The Canal Grande is the largest canal and is lined with buildings dating back to the 13th century, while the beautiful Ponte di Rialto is one of the few bridges to cross the canal. The Gallerie Dell'Accademia is the premier museum in the city for Renaissance art, with da Vinci's Vitruvian Man being the most notable piece.
