Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach lies where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean, and has an over three-mile long boardwalk along the coast. The city has played a significant role in the history of the United States, as it was here that English settlers first arrived on their way to the Jamestown Colony in 1607. This is commemorated in the First Landing State Park. Furthermore, the Cape Henry Lighthouse was the first federally funded public works project commissioned by the U.S. government, and it kept sea travelers safe for over 100 years.
