Jeddah is Saudi Arabia's second-largest city, and its most cosmopolitan, and much of it is now modernized. Fortunately, some of the historical sites remain, specifically in the Al-Balad area, which is perhaps the most charming and photogenic area in the city. Of note are the houses of 19th-century traders, made of coral reefs and limestone. The site is also home to several souks (traditional markets), where locals hunt for bargains and visitors can take in the local cultures and enjoy various street foods.
