Considered a masterpiece of medieval sculpture, the Fontana Maggiore in the Piazza IV Novembre in Perugia is the symbol of the city. Designed by Frà Bevignate da Cingoli and built in the 13th century by a variety of artists and engineers, the fountain consists of 24 tiles on the lower level depicting the months of the year as well as historical and biblical events. At the same time, there are 24 sculptures on top depicting saints and biblical figures.
