The Rotunda of Galerius in Thessaloniki is a masterpiece both from within and without. Originally built as part of a complex for the Roman emperor Galerius in the 4th century, it was altered into a church, a mosque (which is the source of its minaret), and then a church again today (St. George's Church). Featuring cylindrical domed architecture and towering 30 meters in height, the imposing monument is a sight to behold, and the mosaics on the inside are some of the best remaining examples of Byzantine art.
